The Little Sombrero Galaxy (NGC 7814) is a striking edge-on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Pegasus, approximately 40 million light-years from Earth. Resembling a smaller, fainter version of the famous Sombrero Galaxy (M104), it features a bright central bulge bisected by a thin, sharply defined dust lane that gives it a hat-like appearance when viewed from the side. Despite its elegant structure, NGC 7814 has relatively low surface brightness, making it a challenging visual target but a rewarding subject for long-exposure imaging. The Little Sombrero Galaxy provides astronomers with an excellent example of disk and bulge structure in an edge-on spiral system and a useful comparison to our own Milky Way’s geometry.
