NGC 7727 is a peculiar and disturbed galaxy located in the constellation Aquarius at a distance of roughly 90 million light-years from Earth. It is widely interpreted as the remnant of a recent major galaxy merger, with its warped structure, tidal features, and asymmetries betraying a violent past. At its core lie two closely separated supermassive black holes, the surviving nuclei of the original galaxies, making NGC 7727 an important object for studying black hole pairing and coalescence following mergers. With little current star formation but clear dynamical scars, NGC 7727 provides a nearby example of how galaxy collisions reshape structure and influence long-term galactic evolution.
