IC 342 is a large, face-on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Camelopardalis, at a distance of roughly 10–11 million light-years from Earth. Often called the Hidden Galaxy, it lies close to the plane of the Milky Way, and heavy foreground dust significantly obscures its light, making observations challenging despite its intrinsic brightness and size. Beneath this veil, IC 342 reveals loosely wound spiral arms rich in star-forming regions, dust lanes, and glowing hydrogen nebulae similar to those found in the Milky Way. As one of the nearest massive spiral galaxies, IC 342 provides astronomers with an important opportunity to study spiral structure and star formation in a system closely analogous to our own galaxy.
