**LBN 684** is a faint emission and reflection nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, embedded within a complex region of interstellar dust and gas near the plane of the Milky Way. Identified in Beverly Lynds’ catalog of bright nebulae, it is illuminated by nearby stars whose radiation causes portions of the surrounding hydrogen gas to glow while dust reflects softer starlight. Dark lanes and irregular edges indicate dense molecular material, suggesting that LBN 684 is part of a larger star-forming environment, even if active star birth is relatively subtle compared to brighter nebulae. Best revealed through long-exposure or narrowband imaging, LBN 684 exemplifies the delicate, low-surface-brightness structures that trace the interplay between starlight and the interstellar medium.
