Maturango is celebrating the Winter Solstice with an event for families, adults, and children at the museum from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM and CLAS members will set up solar telescopes to view our nearest star.
The Sun is in the active part of its 11–year cycle. At previous Solstice events, we saw sunspots, solar prominences, and other details on the Sun's surface. Join us to celebrate the start of Winter (which officially begins in Ridgecrest on Sunday at 7:04:18 AM).
Note that the Solstice will be like any other day on the Sun, with no special features attributable to this change of seasons. But we expect an active surface during this active solar cycle, with lots to see! So come and take a look!
