The evening of Aug 11-12 will be the peak night of this years Perseid Meteor Shower, and because New Moon is on Aug 16th, it should optimal for observing the shower.

This year's shower peaks on the night of August 11 and past midnight to the morning of August 12. With the New Moon August 16, skies should be optimal for observing the shower.
