On April 8, the Moon will eclipse the Sun. If you were to drive 23 hours to Mazatlán, Mexico (over 1,000 miles away), you could see a total solar eclipse.
In Ridgecrest we will still have a major partial solar eclipse that covers 46.5% of the Sun! CLAS will set up solar telescopes from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM outside Maturango Museum to view this event.
- 10:10 AM - eclipse begins (Moon takes first bite out of the Sun)
- 11:15 AM - maximum coverage (46.5%)
- 12:24 PM - eclipse ends (Moon moves off the Sun)
We will have safe solar glasses as well as special solar telescopes for safe viewing.
Important: Never view the Sun or eclipse with your unprotected eyes, sunglasses, or other unapproved filters. Doing so can cause permanent eye damage or blindness before you even notice any pain!
